Who the Hell is this Witch?

Just a lil brown girl from Queens

The name is Liv Dunbar and as we speak right now, I'm a junior at Smith College. I grew up with Dominican, Puerto Rican, and Jamaican parents. However, we didn't practice a lot of our cultural elements until I got older. It became crucial for me to understand who I am and where I stand amongst the colors of the world, especially in these times. Now, I'm fully dedicated to learning everything that encompasses my bloodlines, venerating my loving ancestors, and even pursuing a side career in archaeology to uncover more about my Taino ancestry.

Something that's remained unchanged in my life, and even encouraged by my own mother, was my love and curiosity for all things magick and metaphysical. My favorite movies as a child were the live action Scooby Doo (2002), Buffy the Vampire Slayer (1992), and my all time favorite Practical Magic (1998). I read nothing but fantasy in my life, consistently drawn to and finding belonging in the magic that roared in the pages. Then, it all came together with my passion for history and theater, even a love for the sciences (I hate math, though). I saw all elements of humanity: art, spirit, war, life, death. Everything that encompassed all elements of existence. Since the beginning, I knew there was more to the world than a single, bleak reality and it was my calling to figure it out.

Give a girl a book, a candle, and her soul

I got weird reactions to my nonconventional, highly intuitive energy throughout my life. My closest friends in elementary school called me a demon worshipper because I wasn't religious like them (in which I responded with pentagrams painted on the backs of my hands, hair in front of my face, and groans of cursing them. They decided they wanted to be friends again after that hehe.) I was told by one of my grand mother's friends that my eyes held an extremely old soul. Another friend of my grandmother's, this time a psychic, told me I was powerful and my magick was in my writing. From these and other meaningful occurrences in my life, I was opened up to the possibility that the things in my favorite books and movies could actually be done, by ME.

One day, after having test tried multiple little charms and spells in middle school, I figured there needed to be a formal way of bringing about my powers, like those grand awakenings you see in the movies. I was 14 years old when I initiated myself into magick. It was a small yet significant ritual complete with wine, salt water, candles and my 'sky-clad' self. There wasn't a whoosh of wind or some loud divine voice or even an itch of some sort, but there was a small tingle on my skin as I spoke the final words. I knew I was different from this point on.

Fast forward to college, and I proudly called myself a witch in any space. I offered tarot readings to friends and family, I used attraction charms and self made potions to gain the favor of lovers (which worked TOO well), and even had a few successful ouija board sessions (please be careful, my room was definitely extra haunted by a child ghost after that.) Still, at this point I didn't realize one of my biggest callings would be that of the esoteric. I had majored in anthropology first, then theater and had stayed with an archaeology minor the entire time, so I felt my purpose was grounded in the material realm. And then the world went up in flames.

Growing with quarantine hermit energy

You already know the mess 2020 was and of course we're still in this mess in 2021. But, as messy as it's been, I've created newfound peace and power in the shifting tides of this Earth. With massive material destruction, people are yearning for something more for that. With threats to our very lives, either through biology or white supremacy, we're looking for something that would protect us and uplift us past the grips of these evils, both physically and spiritually. People are finding that in the esoteric, in the metaphysical, in spirit and seeing worlds past this one, using every resource in the Universe to create a new life for us all.

This is how I and many others have determined that as our very mission in this life. We're learning how to access the infinite knowledge in ourselves and others, in the past, present, and future, and in other realms all together. And with this knowledge, we hope to grab our destiny by the hand and lead it to the side of peace, progress, and the continuation of natural, healthy life on Earth (and maybe other planets!)

How the hell you gonna do that?

I've been doing tarot and have been interested in astrology all my life. I'm now a mentor in herbalism for the soul, exclusively and lovingly mentored by the amazing Ifatinuwe Shanti (more info about her at wombshanti.com).  I continue my theater and archaeological studies to find multiple outlets for the lessons I learn and divine knowledge that's held in the life of our ancestors and the art of our people. I offer private tarot readings (for Patreon members and paying customers) and astrological natal chart observations (for Patreon members only).

Finally, with this blog! I will be posting anything I learn along the way that I feel will help others in their own magickal journeys. On top of that, there will be free tarot readings based on astrological and astronomical events, as well as crafted spells that you can do yourself! There'll probably be more than that as time goes on, but you'll just have to read and see!

Thank you all for your support, for your trust in receiving this information, and for all of your eyes simply gracing upon my words. I hope to repay you in infinite knowledge, love, and spiritual guidance. Blessed be, d'nanichi, and DEUCES!
